Steep slopes and mountain forests

The Hohe Wand Nature Park lies on a particularly striking biogeographical boundary. The sun-exposed steep slopes to the south and east are home to typical heat-loving plant and animal species. The forests on the plateau and on the northern and western slopes, by contrast, already form part of the montane region and are characterised by species-rich mountain forests.

Established in 1969, the Hohe Wand Nature Park covers around 2,000 hectares and encompasses the region’s most scenic areas as well as those of greatest biological and geological interest. This diversity of habitats makes the nature park a unique refuge for numerous animal and plant species.
