On a journey through time
Alpine and Local History Museum – Treasure Chamber
In 1926, the former “Wiener Neustädter Haus” was converted into a holiday camp by the Wiener Neustadt Nature Friends. The municipality of Hohe Wand purchased the building in 1987 and, through painstaking effort, established an Alpine and Local History Museum.
The museum displays exhibits on various themes:
mountaineering – the priest in mountaineering gear;
caves – over 180 caves in the Hohe Wand area;
mining – a source of livelihood for the last 100 years;
Roman settlement – a Roman stone tomb, grave goods, and much more.
Guided tours of the museum are also available for groups by prior arrangement.

The
Helperstorfer Family Village Museum in Maiersdorf at the foot of the Hohe Wand
In his village museum, Franz Helperstorfer showcases the development of technology in agriculture and forestry, as well as events in village life.
As a firefighter, pitch-maker, hunter, farmer and forester, and as a witness to the front lines in 1945, he began collecting interesting objects in his youth.
This has resulted in an interesting collection featuring many exhibits on the following themes:
forestry, the fire service, trade and commerce, beekeeping, the household, agriculture, pitch production, mining, prehistory and early history, as well as war relics.
Opening hours:
1 May – 31 October, every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month and every public holiday
