Bringing nature into the classroom

“Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Let me do it and I understand.”

In line with this quote from Confucius, children are at the heart of the collaboration between nature parks and nature park schools. The aim is for children to understand the importance of protecting our precious natural environment.

Being a Nature Park School involves very close cooperation between the nature park, the school and the local community. Through joint projects, excursions and interactive learning in the natural environment, the respective conservation area is intended to become tangible and come to life for the children. Because “you can only appreciate what you know. And only what you value will you protect!

The title ‘Nature Park School’ is awarded to schools in nature park communities that align their mission statement with the four pillars of a nature park’s remit (conservation, recreation, education and regional development) and define joint teaching and learning objectives, taking into account the specific characteristics of the respective nature park.
