Johannesbach gorge in Würflach

Outdoor adventure, Ponds, lakes and springs

Description

Johannesbachklamm nature experience

The Johannesbachklamm gorge is located on the western edge of Würflach and is one of the region's best-known natural areas. Only around an hour away from Vienna, it offers a welcome break amidst shady rocks and gently flowing water.

Impressive gorge with history

The approximately one-kilometre-long path through the gorge leads along steep rock faces that tower up to 60 meters high. The Johannesbach stream has carved its way deep into the Wetterstein limestone here over thousands of years - an impressive testimony to geological development.

Family-friendly and varied

With a walking time of around 30 minutes, the trail is particularly suitable for families with children. Stairs, wooden walkways and small bridges provide variety along the way. In some places it is possible to step directly into the water - a welcome way to cool off on warm days.

Hiking through the gorge and beyond

The Johannesbachklamm gorge is not only suitable for a short walk, but also as an introduction to longer hiking tours in the area. Directly from the gorge entrance, well-marked paths run through forests, meadows and the gentle hilly landscape near Würflach. If you have more time, you can explore the region on extensive circular routes.

Tip for the winter season:

The Advent market in the Johannesbachklamm gorge lives from its atmosphere between the rocks and the gorge. Many come here not only because of the festively decorated, huge Christmas tree - but also because of the powerful backdrop, which is so rare to find.
