Eisensteinhöhle
Outdoor adventure
Description
The ironstone cave in Bad Fischau was discovered by chance. There was actually a quarry here, but in 1855 mining work uncovered the entrance to the cave. Today, the cave bears the name of the former owner of the quarry: Imperial Knight Eissner von und zu Eisenstein.
Since 1958, a newly created entrance has led to the thermal spring at the lowest point and back to daylight through the old entrance. The guided tour lasts a good hour and takes place from May to October on every first and third Sunday at 10.00, 12.00, 14.00 and 16.00 by appointment. Adults pay € 9 and children € 5 for the underground adventure
Visitors descend via clay steps and four iron ladders and explore parts of the cave, which is over two kilometers long. Narrow crevices and low passages alternate with high crevices and form a winding labyrinth characterized by reddish-brown clay deposits. The pearl sinter, a limestone deposit in the form of round spheres, is particularly beautiful.
Please register directly with the certified cave guide. Guided tours for groups (max. 10 people) are also possible on other dates by prior arrangement. Sure-footedness and physical fitness required! Children only from the age of 10.
