Details for: Circular hike through the Nature Park Hohe Wand

Brief description

Circular hike through the Nature Park Hohe Wand to the Skywalk and the animal enclosure - recommended both in summer and winter, also accessible by public transport!

Description

On the hike through the forests of the nature park, we can look forward to curious enclosure inhabitants, a petting zoo and, as a highlight, the Skywalk viewing terrace.

In the petting zoo, goats, donkeys and other animals are waiting to be stroked. Right next to it, you can learn interesting facts about the old occupations of the Hohe Wand inhabitants - lime burning in the lime kiln and the production of charcoal in the rural round pile. You can marvel at the deer enclosure, where the otherwise shy forest dwellers come very close for food from the vending machine and can even be stroked. After admiring these noble animals, the trail continues to Gasthof Postl, where you can discover orchids and other rare plants along the way. You can experience breathtaking views and vistas when you visit the Skywalk viewing terrace. Climbers scale the Hohe Wand via various routes and compete with the ibexes. Who is better at it? In any case, it is easily possible to come across such a magnificent specimen on the rock faces. In good weather, you can also watch the paragliders take off. Who would like to try a tandem flight or fly the glider themselves? The Fly-Hohe Wand flying school at Gasthof Postl makes it possible. For all those who want to fortify themselves before heading back: The fried chicken and of course all other dishes at the Luf inn are highly recommended.

Route description Circular hike through the Nature Park Hohe Wand

Starting at the Nature Park Info Shop, the path leads us to the petting zoo. We follow the RWW 2 - Gasthof Postl/Skywalk towards the enclosure. Passing the deer enclosure, we continue left until we reach the road. It is about 200 m to the Gasthof Postl junction. Now we go downhill to the Long Meadow, then Gasthof Postl is already in sight. Heavenly views can be enjoyed from the Skywalk viewing terrace. Now we return to the parking lot at Gasthof Postl. We keep left towards Gasthaus Luf/Hochkogelhaus. The path to Gasthaus Luf (closed on Mondays) leads us through quiet forests and first goes uphill, then a flat stretch before going downhill again and the last part uphill. After Gasthaus Luf, we continue to Hochkogelhaus. Here begins the rather flat path towards Gasthof Kleine Kanzel - fallow deer enclosure, which takes us comfortably back to the starting point in about an hour.
